AI is a tool, like any other tool; it’s, at its core, a capability (or force) multiplier. Whatever you input to it comes out multiplied, regardless of its quality. Therefore, if you input low-quality data, the output would be low quality too, but in greater quantities.
With tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, or Claude, a cloud engineer, a software developer, or anyone building computer systems can massively increase their output. He/she can vibecode a complete system or application from the ground up, whether or not he understands what the tool is outputting.
This could be great since “anyone” is now able to push complex systems into production quickly and cheaply, which democratizes technology; what’s not to like about this?
Let’s dig a bit deeper.
There are cases where to vibecode something quickly without thinking twice about performance, security, or regulation compliance, it’s fine, for example, when you just want to test an idea and see it in action; that’s a perfectly acceptable scenario; what’s not a perfectly acceptable scenario is doing that in production.
I know I’m stating the obvious, but just in case someone forgets, bad products and bad experiences sink companies quickly!
AI tools, not unlike guns, in the hands of a trained, responsible person can make us all safer; but give them to someone who doesn’t understand how to use them, and problems escalate quickly because that person’s ability to spread mayhem is greatly increased effortlessly.
